A.M. Yoga for Your Week(Gaiam) 2008 What is it? Five brief, targeted Yoga routines, each running approximately 25 minutes. Rodney Yee instructs. Who is it for? What to expect: Sad but true: not many people can spare an hour or so in the morning for a full Yoga workout. This disc gives you five short routines, one for each day of your workweek. (Yee says they are 20 minutes, but they run closer to 25.) Each flowing workout has a different focus — Standing Poses, Twists, Back Bends, Forward Bends and Hip Openers — and they are easy enough for advanced beginners while still engaging more experienced Yoga enthusiasts in delightful self-discovery. As always, Yee has you looking at each pose in a slightly different way, all the better to keep aware of what your body is doing, and what it wants to do. Although these routines make a good wake-up for your body, they're good to do any time of the day when you have about 25 minutes to spare (Yee even manages to fit in a quick Shavasana at the end of each one). Most of them use a prop, whether it's a strap for Reclined Big Toe pose, a couple of blankets rolled together, bolster-style, for a gentle back bend or a block to help in a hip opening pose. Nothing is too difficult, but you do need to be familiar with the basic poses. For a DVD of shorter Yoga routines, you can't do better than this one - good variety, Yee's poetic instruction and a dramatic desert landscape as a backdrop. Other Yoga DVDs you may like: |
