What is it?
An hour-long video that combines Yoga postures with meditations and affirmations on the chakras.
Who is it for?
Those who are already familiar with Yoga's basics and are looking for both a practical and spiritual application to their practice.
What to expect:
Rich McCord, PhD. is the director of Ananda Yoga worldwide, and his instruction in this video has much warmth and knowledge. At the start of the video, he offers a concise and informative description of the chakras, which distribute subtle energies throughout the body. He also explains that emotions are related to each chakra, and they can be approached in either a positive or negative fashion. Then he leads a Yoga session which energizes each chakra, from the first, at the base of the spine, to the seventh at the crown of the head. Accompanying each pose is an affirmation to chant mentally. Ananda Yoga's style generally focuses on Yoga's gentler side, but keep in mind that doesn't mean that some of these poses aren't a bit challenging! Included in the practice is Boat pose, which McCord demonstrates in its full form, Camel, and a modified Shoulderstand — all are basic poses but they're not amongst the absolute easiest. Those who find the affirmations a bit corny probably aren't the types who would really get the most out of this video. It's more for those who are willing to drop their inhibitions and reservations and go with the flow. Will this video energize your chakras? That's for you to decide — those who are in touch with both their physical and etheric bodies will definitely feel something. Others may have to work towards that awareness. Either way, this video is gently vitalizing overall, whether you are familiar with chakras or not.
