On the Ball Yoga Workout for Beginners(Natural Journeys) 2003 What is it? A 45-minute workout that combines Yoga poses with a stability ball. Sara Ivanhoe instructs. Who is it for? Beginning to intermediate exercisers who are already familiar with Yoga. You will need a stability ball and a mat.
What to expect: This workout will not feel like your average, everyday Yoga practice. Adding a stability ball to Yoga changes the feel and experience of the poses quite a bit. Sometimes it changes the center of gravity to offer a new challenge — think that Eagle might be easier sitting on the ball? Don't bet on it! Sometimes it modifies the muscles worked — the ball version of Downward Facing Dog (here called "puppy dog") is easier, but it also gives more involvement to the core muscles. And so it goes throughout this 45-minute routine. It may be a little awkward at first when you're trying to fit your legs around the ball for some of the standing poses, but if you persevere you get an interesting twist to Yoga — one that puts more emphasis on the stabilizing, core muscles. Sara Ivanhoe is featured here, and she cues in a clear, good-natured manner. While this routine isn't for a serious Yogi or Yogini, exercisers who love both Yoga and the stability ball will enjoy this unusual workout. Other Yoga workout DVDs you may like:
