Beyond Basic Yoga for Dummies(Anchor Bay) 2002 What is it? A 52-minute instructional Yoga session that includes 12 Yoga poses. Sara Ivanhoe instructs. Who is it for? Advanced beginners — you should already have been practicing Yoga for at least a few weeks or months. You will need a mat, and depending on your flexibility and comfort level, perhaps a strap and a pillow.
What to expect: If your beginning Yoga DVDs are starting to lose their luster, you will find some new moves — and new challenges — with this session. It's not a quite a full-on Yoga class, as each pose is introduced and practiced separately from the others. But instructor Sara Ivanhoe teaches the particulars about each pose so that you learn it as thoroughly as you can, considering you don't have an in-person teacher correcting your posture. The poses are also held for at least six breaths (sometimes it seems longer!), so you get the maximum benefit from each one. Some of these poses, such as Warrior and Triangle, will probably be familiar to you from other beginning Yoga routines, but others, such as Dolphin and Reclined Butterfly, may be new to you if you haven't been doing Yoga for very long. Some — Cow, for example, and Low Lunge Twist — will offer challenges for many. Ivanhoe has modifications for most poses to help you along. There is also a 15-minute, "bonus" guided meditation. While the poses don't flow from one to the other like a real class, and the Dummies tips and warnings can get tiring, you'll still appreciate this session, since it offers poses you may not get to practice very often.
