Chakra Balancing Yoga(Acacia)
2009
What is it?
A 55-minute Yoga routine that focuses on aligning and opening the chakras. Sharon Gannon instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate Yoga enthusiasts — while many of the poses here are familiar, Gannon throws in a few more advanced moves. You will need a mat, and maybe a couple of props — a block and a blanket, but they aren’t absolutely necessary.
What to expect:
If Yoga is more than a physical workout for you, and if you are drawn to the Eastern ideas of life, then this routine will resonate with you. It uses breath, chanting and poses to explore and unblock the seven chakras (energy centers of the body). Gannon (co founder with David Life of the Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York) takes you slowly through each pose — this is not a vinyasa routine — and gives you mental exercises to let go of emotional hurts and honor yourself and the earth. Each chakra has its own sound, focus and healing Yoga pose (heart-opening backbends for your heart chakra, for example). There are a few more advanced poses here — wheel, shoulderstand and a modified headstand among them — so you should already have an established Yoga practice before doing the routine on this disc. This session reaches deep into your spirit and your mobility and leaves you feeling relaxed and at peace.
