Crunch Candlelight YogaCrunch: Candlelight Yoga
(Anchor Bay Entertainment)
2002
What is it?
A 40-minute relaxing Yoga stretch routine led by Sara Ivanhoe. There is also a bonus 18-minute gentle but energizing Yoga session on the DVD.
Who is it for?
Beginning and advanced beginning Yoga enthusiasts who are looking for a way to relax and relieve stress.
What to expect:
Yoga seems to be separating into two contradictory camps: the vigorous Power Yoga proponents, and the softer, gentle Yoga supporters. The truth is that even the most energetic Power Yoga practitioner needs to unwind every now and again, and this routine offers a nice break, or a pleasant end-of-the-day stretch. Sara Ivanhoe is an excellent instructor for this — her manner is calming in and of itself. She leads you through a routine that is not meant to challenge but to soothe. The postures — Cat, Downward Facing Dog, twists and forward bends are healing, relaxing and restorative. The whole production is well done — in spite of what you may assume from the title, the set is not dark. It's refreshingly bright with dozens of glowing candles adding ambience. The students featured in the background display many different levels of flexibility and one woman illustrates helpful modifications. It's a real feel-good routine and a great stress reliever. Included on the DVD is an 18-minute energizing session — most of the poses in it are not difficult (or there are easier modifications), and it makes for a good a.m. wake up call.
