What is it?
A 40-minute Yoga routine, with flowing poses geared to sculpt the core and lower body. Bethany Lyons instructs.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning to intermediate exercisers. While it's best if you are already familiar with the poses, you don't need to have been practicing Yoga for a long time to get a lot out of this workout. You will just need a mat.
What to expect:
While the word "Yoga" is Sanskrit for "yoke" or "union," there are times when you just want to drop the semantics and get in some toning and flexibility training. That's what this workout does. Lyons has sequenced a series of flowing poses that will give a light burn to your legs, glutes and abdominals, while enhancing your flexibility. You'll find lots of Warrior and lunge-style poses, with Plank and Boat hitting your core. Lyons is not a full-time Yogini; she's a highly-trained, all-around fitness instructor who teaches Yoga in gyms. Her approach reflects that: her cueing is clear, her persona upbeat and chipper, her instruction charmingly nonspiritual while still keeping aware of Yoga's roots. This routine is a nice lower-body toner. You will feel it the next day, but it won't kill you. Consider it for a lighter or supplemental toning day. Since it's a Yoga workout, you also get the benefit of flexibility training and there's a pleasant Shavasana at the end to add a touch of calm to your day.
