(Raviana)
2007
What is it?
An 85-minute Kundalini Yoga routine that can be broken up into several different mini-workouts. While this is the same workout as the one released in 2005, this re-released version has a "matrix" option so you can build your own customized session, and it also includes a breath primer for those who are new to Kundalini Yoga. Ana Brett illustrates the routine, which is narrated by Ravi Singh.
Who is it for?
Beginners on up. That said, be forewarned: Kundalini is a more vigorous form of Yoga than many other styles, and the breathwork can take some getting used to. You just need a mat; there are no props or modifications.
What to expect:
I usually look forward to these 10-Minute Solution DVDs with the idea that I can get a good, fasIf you are used to traditional, Hatha-based Yoga, Kundalini will seem a little strange to you — there's more chanting involved, especially at the beginning and end, and the breathing exercises that are an essential part of the workouts are far different from anything you see in other Yoga styles. Kundalini Yoga is also a lot about mind, and overcoming internal obstacles, and its spiritual bent is not for everyone. That said, if you are new to Kundalini Yoga and curious about it, this DVD would be a good place to start. The routine is broken up into several different segments and you take a Shavasana-type break in between them, so you aren't going full speed the whole time like you would be with some other Kundalini workouts. After the warm-up, the first three main segments — "Start Your Engines," "Fight Fire With Fire" and "No Impact Aerobics" — involve an active approach to Yoga postures that is more aggressive than Flow Yoga. The "Your Life Is in Your Own Glands" segment is not as active, but relies a lot on Breath of Fire, a breathing style that takes a certain amount of stamina to master. The last 15 minutes or so of the workout include a couple of different meditation sequences, one of which is specifically geared to heal your emotions. The latter is especially moving and very worthwhile, and Ravi Singh's calming voice works well here (although his narration wonderful throughout the whole disc).

This workout was originally released in 2005, but this latest version includes instruction for the two main breathing exercises you will need, plus a "matrix" option, which allows you to program however many segments you want or have time to do in any given session. So if you are digging around for a used version, make sure you are getting this one, and not the earlier version.
