The Firm: Power Yoga(Good Times) 2004 What is it? A 32-minute Yoga and stretching workout from the Firm's "Fit & Firm" series. Kirsten Stohecker hosts. Who is it for? Beginning to advanced beginning exercisers. It helps to be familiar with Yoga poses in advance, since the instruction is not overly detailed. You'll just need a sticky mat — the modifications shown don't need props.
What to expect: In spite of the title, this isn't really a Power Yoga workout — it's more of a beginner-to-advanced-beginner Yoga session that includes many classic poses such as Warriors I and II, Triangle, Boat, Side Plank and more. Stohecker focuses more on the stretching aspect of Yoga, and avoids anything deeper — this is definitely more for all-around exercisers than Yoga-only enthusiasts. Stohecker doesn't even get into the names of the poses — you don't have to know what a Warrior or Downward Facing Dog is. You just do them as she instructs. It is best, however, if you are already familiar with Yoga because the instruction is not very deep either. Stohecker is good on cueing your breathing, but you need to keep an eye on the screen for foot placement in the standing poses, and you are rarely told where your muscle awareness should be. It's a basic, half-hour Yoga routine, in that you start off with some Vinyasas, continue onto some standing postures and then some floor poses before ending with an all-too-quick Corpse Pose (it lasts about a minute, if that). This routine is best for those who enjoy the Firm's other workouts, since the stretches it emphasizes are for the areas that Firm's cardio and strength training systems also target. If you see Yoga as more of a workout than a "practice," then you will probably enjoy this DVD too. Other Yoga DVDs you may like:
