Healing Yoga for Aches & Pains(Anchor Bay Entertainment) 2002 What is it? A half-hour's worth of simple Yoga, broken down into three segments and geared towards people suffering from osteoarthritis, headaches, neck aches or minor back pain. Who is it for? Mainly Yoga beginners. Those suffering from muscular or joint pain may find some relief from practicing these poses. Along with the requisite sticky mat, you will need a chair.
What to expect: If you find most beginning Yoga videos too advanced for you, or if you are holding a lot of stress in your neck, shoulders and back, the three routines in this program offer a soothing break and a good stretch. The first, 12-minute seated segment focuses on connecting with the breath and simple stretches and twists. The second, 10-minute segment uses the chair for modifications of standing poses. The final 10-minute segment consists of relaxing floor poses. Keep in mind that while these are pretty easy Yoga routines, not every pose is gentle — the upper half of Eagle Pose is practiced in the first segment, and that offers a very deep stretch; Powerful Pose (seen in the second segment) is a lower body strengthener. The instructors, Charles and Lisa Matkin, are experts at therapeutic Yoga — they are directors of the Mind-Body Therapies department at a New York City complimentary health care center. In addition, both Matkins were senior instructors at Yoga Zone before striking out on their own (you may remember them from some of Yoga Zone's videos). Not every Yoga routine needs to be challenging (nor should they all be). This program is to help you get the kinks out of your muscles and mind, and, as the title implies offers relief from aches and pains. Other Yoga DVDs you may like:
