Intermediate Yoga in Fiji |
Intermediate Yoga in Fiji(Bayview) 2006 What is it? A 50-minute intermediate-to-advanced Yoga session from Elise Browning Miller. Who is it for? Intermediate and advanced Yoga enthusiasts, especially those who favor Iyengar. You definitely need to be experienced at Yoga to do this routine! You will need a mat and while no modifications are shown, you may want to have some props on hand if you don't have a full range of flexibility.
What to expect: When your Yoga practice goes well beyond the beginning stage, you may find the selection of intermediate and advanced Yoga DVDs rather limited. What's even more frustrating is that what passes as intermediate is often lacking - either the routines are easier than they claim to be, or the instruction is inadequate. In contrast, this DVD from Elise Miller is almost as refreshing as the routine's Fiji setting. For an intermediate or advanced practice, it is not very long — 50 minutes, compared to the hour or 90 minutes you'd probably spend in class — but it's got everything you'd want. The poses are introduced with their Sanskrit names, and with poses such as revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana) and full Pigeon (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana), this routine is definitely not for newbies! Elise Miller has been teaching Yoga for 30 years and has actually studied with the Iyengars, and her first class instruction shows it. So does her ability to go deeply within each pose. Judging from her appearance (not to mention lengthy experience), she must be close to 60, but her body is as flexible as a dancer's. Included on this disc is a section where Miller slowly goes over the more difficult poses, and also includes some you didn't see in the routine, such as Raven and Wheel. This is a true intermediate Yoga practice, and if your own capabilities go beyond most of the other DVDs out there, you'll definitely want to give this one a try. Other Yoga DVDs you may like:
