What is it?
An hour-long workout that combines Yoga with light weights. Anthony Carillo instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate to advanced exercisers. You will need light (1 to 5 pound) dumbbells  — opt for a considerably lighter weight than you would normally use! You'll also need a mat.
What to expect:
Anthony Carillo is a nationally ranked Ironman triathlete, so let that be a warning — this is not exactly a gentle Yoga routine. And since there are dumbbells involved, let that be a warning to Yoga purists too. Those with an open mind, a sense of adventure and who have already achieved a moderate fitness level, however, will enjoy this unique Yoga/ toning session. (Even though beginner modifications are illustrated, it's really best for those with both Yoga and weight training experience.) Carillo leads you through a series of Yoga postures with the added challenge of weight training moves. Since the poses are all done quite slowly, and you're holding weights at unusual angles, you'll find this workout to be more difficult than it appears on the surface. That's also the reason you'll need lighter weights than you would normally use. Carillo includes a couple of complex balance moves that are quite difficult to do while holding weights. So if you think you're pretty good at Triangle, Side Angle, Eagle and even Warrior III, try this routine on for size! It's a full-body workout that both tones and increases flexibility.

This video is (I think) based on a sound concept. Light weights are encorporated into a yoga routine. However, the video is extremely slow paced. It would be a good one time class to learn the moves and become familiar with the weights - but I wouldn't want to do it after that (I don't!). The legs get a real workout though as you hold lunges and such while holding the light weights in your hands. The arms, however, because of the exteremely light weights, do not get much of a workout as one might expect. For me, this is not a keeper.
