| Kathy Smith's New Yoga Basics |
Kathy Smith's New Yoga Basics(Sony) 2001 What is it? A 55-minute beginning Yoga session led by fitness icon Kathy Smith. Who is it for? People who are new to Yoga and who want a good, basic practice tape that doesn't have a lot of spiritual mumbo-jumbo. You should have a strap and a couple of blankets handy.
What to expect: In addition to her career as a fitness expert, Kathy Smith has also been a longtime Yoga practitioner. She brings the same sort of attention and care to Yoga that she does to other forms of exercise, so this video is an excellent beginner's tape. Smith takes time with the poses, thoroughly explaining each one and frequently reminding the viewer to breathe. Two other Yoga practitioners show the poses in advanced and modified form. Smith is gently encouraging — a very toned-down version of her usual energetic self — and the photography and lighting also add a calming aura. This video is highly recommended for anyone who's either new to Yoga or still in the beginning stages — chances are they'll still be using it months later, as their flexibility and knowledge increases.
