(Peter Pan Video)
1999-2001
What is it?
A 45-minute pre-natal Yoga session led by renowned Kundalini Yoga instructor Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa.
Who is it for?
Pregnant women who want to enhance their well-being during this special time. Especially good for moms-to-be who are familiar with Kundalini Yoga.
What to expect:
Gurmukh has been teaching Yoga to pregnant women for almost three decades and this tape contains much of what her in-person classes offer. In spite of what some may consider a "new age-y" bent, this is an extremely practical video. Before you self-consciously fast-forward past the chanting, give it a try — it makes for an excellent breathing exercise. And the dance section will open you up and help you lose your inhibitions — another plus for when you go into labor. The actual Yoga poses themselves are excellent for strengthening the thighs, groin muscles, and back, and for relieving the aches and pains that accompany pregnancy. The moves are adapted for a woman's changing body, but they're still surprisingly challenging (when she gives you the choice of lying on your back or being on all fours, however, if you are more than four months pregnant, you should choose the all-fours option). This tape is geared for results and will definitely build up your endurance (or help you keep it up if you already have it). Joining Gurmukh are ten women in various stages of pregnancy — real women — not Hollywood model/ actress babes — who are learning right along with you. Another plus is the small orchestra offering live accompaniment. If you're not used to Kundalini Yoga, then look past Gurmukh's turban and spiritual-speak and try this video anyway. You'll be glad you did.
