(Gaiam)
1999
What is it?
A quick, 20-minute Power Yoga workout taught by renowned Yoga instructor Rodney Yee.
Who is it for?
In spite of what it says on the box, this is not for total beginners — at the very least it's for advanced beginners to intermediates. Great for those who are pressed for time.
What to expect:
If you are familiar with Rodney Yee's approach, you know what to expect, and whether you like him or not. His tapes are generally a bit challenging and often there's minimal instruction (but what he does say is definitely worth hearing). He's spiritual without being overbearing about it — his tapes are shot at beautiful locations (here he chooses Joshua Tree National Park), and the uplifting scenery speaks for itself. This Power Yoga session is short but effective — it's energizing and it increases strength and flexibility. It breaks down like this: 6 minutes of Sun Salutations, 7 minutes concentrated on Standing Foward Bends, and the final 7 minutes focused on Seated Forward Bends. Keep in mind that there are no variations offered here — unless you already know modifications, you're stuck. Most advanced beginners and intermediates, however, will be able to do most of these moves (although not as deeply or as beautifully as Yee). If you're familiar enough with basic Yoga to jump into the faster-moving Power Yoga flow, you will enjoy this tape. And the 20-minute length makes it easy to slip in a session, even on a busy day.
