Power Yoga: Total Body Workout(Gaiam) 2003 What is it? An hour-long Power Yoga workout from Rodney Yee. Who is it for? Intermediate Yoga enthusiasts and up — you need to be in good shape for this one, too (i.e., no bad knees or backs). Yee's instruction assumes that you are already familiar with Yoga Asanas, and the workout includes some more advanced moves such as Warrior III and Upward Bow, without offering modifications. You'll need a mat, of course, but if you are ready for this DVD, you already have one.
What to expect: This flowing Power Yoga practice from Rodney Yee requires you to be mindfully present. He builds the routine gradually, allowing your body a little time to work into the requirements of each pose. This makes the workout move a little more slowly than some other Power Yoga sessions, but it also gives you the opportunity to be more mindful about your poses. Sun Salutation preps segue into full Sun Salutations, which segue into standing poses and then floor poses and eventually into Relaxation Pose. You'll find several more advanced postures along the way. It's ideal if you are ready to do them, but you can also skip them if they are too difficult for you (hint: if you have problems with Upward Bow, or if doing it more than once is too much for you, you can do Bridge Pose instead). This is definitely a workout for intermediate Yoga enthusiasts, since Yee doesn't offer the basic instruction needed by beginners. Instead, he directs you through a few details that emphasize your ability to be aware through each pose. If your level of ability is right for this workout and your practice is about both mindfulness and building strength and flexibility, you'll have a wonderful time. If you're not quite there yet, and you're in good physical condition, you may want to try this out anyhow and work up to the whole routine. Other Exercise DVDs you may like:
