introduction to qi yogaIntroduction to Qi Yoga
(Qi Yoga Enterprises)
2006
What is it?
An hour-long blend of Yoga and Qi Gong, plus separate instruction for the Qi Gong movements, and a 4-minute, energizing Qi Burst. Dawn Holst is the teacher, and Mfundishi (master) Bakari joins her in the Qi Burst.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning Yoga enthusiasts and up. You need to know your way around a Yoga mat, and you will need at least a little bit of strength and endurance to get through the hour-long session.
What to expect:
Only a small handful of instructors have combined Yoga with Qi Gong, which is surprising, since the two practices blend together so seamlessly. In a refreshing forest setting, Dawn Holst leads you through a flowing session of Asanas that includes several Qi Gong sections. The result offers a sense of wellbeing that is a little different from your typical Yoga class, but not quite as kinetic as an intense Qi Gong session either. (If the latter is what you want, there's the Qi Burst for you.) You feel energized, but not spacey. Some of the moves in this routine are a little advanced - prayer twists, hip openers and Warrior III for example — so you should already be practicing Yoga. Knowledge of Qi Gong is helpful too, but not necessary. Holst separates the Qi Gong instruction so you can learn the moves on their own, and then combines them for the Qi Burst, which is a nice pick-me-up that can be done anytime you have 4 minutes to spare. This DVD is different from your usual Yoga routine, and a welcome change.

Qi Yoga works for me
written by Sean S, March 06, 2008
I am not really a yoga person. I run, play basketball and have even been boxing for the past 4 years. Qi Yoga is both very physically challenging and really calming as well. This is the first time i have really been able to get into yoga. Also, my wife (who does do yoga and turned me onto it) swears by it.
