Yoga for Inflexible People(Bodywisdom Media) 2002 What is it? An interactive DVD that creates over 35 Yoga routines. Who is it for? In spite of the title, this DVD isn't just for the inflexible — it's for all beginners and up. You'll need a lot of props, though — along with the requisite mat, have a blanket, chair, blocks and a strap handy.
What to expect: This is one of the most versatile Yoga DVDs around. Instead of the one or two Yoga routines you find on most (with maybe an additional quickie "bonus workout"), this DVD contains no less than 35 routines that cover all the bases, from standing basics, to energizing routines, to series of poses that stretch your shoulders, hips and back and more. The sessions vary in length from 15 to 75 minutes. How does this DVD do it all? Yoga instructor Judi Rice has sixty poses and vinyasas here; each routine is a different combination of poses — her choices depend on the focus. Since Rice is an Iyengar instructor, you'll find she uses lots of props (all the better to help inflexible people), and her instructions are detailed. The poses are done slowly so that you really learn them. This is not a Power Yoga session where you rush through the postures. The only complaints about this DVD are that Rice is not the most charismatic teacher around, and the backdrop is very basic. If you want Rodney Yee spouting Yogic poetry in the middle of a lush, faraway landscape, you will probably walk away from this DVD dissatisfied. If you're serious about Yoga and want a supplement to your Yoga classes that will enhance your home practice for a very, very long time (even after you become flexible), you will appreciate the simple and varied approach of Yoga for Inflexible People.
