Yoga: Total Body Makeover(Natural Journeys) 2007 What is it? A 53-minute Yoga routine that focuses on toning and building overall strength. There's also a 10-minute "Buns Burner" bonus. Alanna Zabel instructs. Who is it for? Intermediate Yoga enthusiasts. Zabel expects you to know what you're doing, so her instruction isn't highly detailed, and some of the poses are beyond beginner level. You will just need a mat — there are no props used.
What to expect: I don't normally do Yoga DVDs expecting to be sore the next day, but this one really made my muscles burn. Zabel leads you through a strength-building routine, adding a vinyasa-type twist to many poses to make them all that much more difficult. She warms you up with about 10 minutes' worth of Sun Salutations, then zeroes in on your lower body with Chair Pose, the Warrior poses, and more. Then she gives your upper body a workout with Side Plank, Crow and arm circles done while you're in Tree Pose (ouch!). Next up is core conditioning — Boat Pose, one-legged Bridge, Yoga crunches and the like. Finally, you end with a cool-down (that includes Shoulderstand) and a well-deserved Shavasana. If you still want more, there's a 10-minute "Buns Burner" with glute-targeted poses. This is not a workout for beginners — there are a lot of balancing poses and you need to know proper form to do her versions of some of the moves (for example, she has you doing a one-legged squat in Warrior III). But if you're looking for a sculpting workout that doesn't use anything other than your body weight, and you love Yoga, then you'll get the best of both worlds here.
