Hemalaya Behl's Yoga for Urban Living(Natural Journeys) 2003 What is it? Three Yoga routines — a half hour morning segment, a half-hour evening segment, and an hour-long session for whenever you have the time. Who is it for? Beginners to intermediates — these are solid routines and, even better, two of them include some pranayama, which is rare in most basic Yoga DVDs. You should already know basic Yoga Asana — these routines aren't for complete Yoga newbies, and some of the poses can be challenging.
What to expect: Instead of oozing personality and posing with breathtaking scenery in the background, Hemalaya Behl opts for a simple, direct approach in what appears to be a sparsely (but attractively) adorned studio. This keeps the focus of the programs right where it should be — on the routines. You get three of them here plus additional bonus segments. These three routines are completely different — not mixed and matched from one long segment, making them an especially good value. The "morning quickie" is a half hour series of Sun Salutations that awaken the body. "Evening Bath" is a cooling, calming routine that includes inversions. "Daily Connection" lasts for an hour and stretches and strengthens every part of your body. This session includes hip openers, backbends and twists. A special treat here is that Behl includes Pranayama — breathing exercises — in her routines. The energized breathing, featured in the "morning quickie" routine, is especially invigorating. In the bonus section, Behl offers a brief introduction to the breathing exercises, and instruction on a dozen Yoga poses. Hemalaya Behl offers a Yoga DVD that is a bit out of the ordinary, and which offers a lot more than your average Yoga program. These Yoga routines are also available separately on video: Other Yoga DVDs you may like:
